Estimate $150
Bid at live.noble.com.au

CEYLON (SRI LANKA), base metal die for a railed tree of the type used by the Andhrabhrityas (Servants of the Andhras) in the Southern Deccan, The Chutus of Banavasi, c.A.D. 160-345, as used on making of lead double karshapana (cf.M.4972, cf.BMC Pl.VIII). Very fine and very rare.

The die type has similar characteristics but has less branches on the tree, suggesting a die used by a contemporary forger.

Estimate / sale price does not include buyer's premium (currently 22% including GST) which is added to hammer price. All bids are executed on the understanding that the Terms & Conditions of sale have been read and accepted. For information on grading and estimates please refer to the Buying at Auction advice.
