INDONESIA, Bangka Island, 18th century, tin jokoh, dated 1777 A.D., obv. characters 'gong si', rev. Kanpani VOC sanat 1191AH = 1777 A.D., (cf.Mitchiner 3130). Very fine and rare.
The tin mines on Bangka Island, situated off the south-east coast of Sumatra, were exploited from about 1710, largely by the Chinese.
