SOUTH AUSTRALIAN AGRICULTURAL & Horticultural Society, 1867, in gold (22ct, 22.69gm, 33mm) by J.M.Wendt, inscribed around edge 'J.M.Wendt Design & Workmanship in Gold' (C.1867/4). With small test cuts on edge, otherwise very fine and extremely rare especially to this recipient.

Joachim Matthias Wendt (1830-1917) migrated from Holstein to Adelaide in 1854; he was naturalised in 1864. Wendt produced four caskets for the Duke of Edinburgh’s visit to Adelaide in 1867. He was commissioned by the Duke for other work and appointed ’Jeweller to His Royal Highness’ in South Australia. Wendt was the builder and owner of the Adelaide Arcade.
