GREAT BRITAIN, 1821 bronzed proof medal (54mm) in original round, red case, 'The Thomason Metallic Vase'. FDC as struck.
Case has Victorian writing on back ’Presented by Mrs Woodward 8th June 1857.’ Sir Edward Thomason (1769-1849) was among the greatest of Birmingham’s craftsmen. He completed the largest vase in the world, a copy of a Roman marble vase, in 1820. The Thomason vase was 21 feet in circumference and over 5 feet tall.
