TASMANIA MINING, important documents, letters, accounts and papers re Edwin George Clarke who, in the late 1890s and early 1900s, was involved in the leasehold of the Zeehan, Victoria and the Exchange Hotels and also with leaseholding of land in the Ringarooma River area in respect of tin mining and in particular with The Ringarooma Tribute; a mining section on the Haskinson River; The Tullibardine; also with leases near Moorina and Derby and lease on 110 acres of land at Casha; other documents and correspondence re such companies as Ringarooma Tin Dredging; The Tasmanian Tin Dredging Company Limited; The Curtin Davis Proprietory Company NL; The United Prospecting Association NL; The Curtin and Davis Consols Mining Coy; Queen River Dredging and Sluicing Coy; also The Farmers' Co-operative Auctioneers Limited. A rare collection of documents relating to Tasmanian east and west coast mining history, very good - very fine. (lot)

Some mining related items include, 1.Correspondence from Van Diemen’s Land Compy, Burnie 23 April 1891. 2. Notice of half yearly general meeting of The United Prospecting Association at Anderson’s Commercial Hotel, Mount Zeehan, 13 August 1891. 3. Transfer of interest in mining section on Haskinson River from E.G.Clarke, 14 January 1892. 4. Share certificate - The Curtin and Davis Consols Mining Coy Tasmania, certificate no.699 for 20 shares to E.G.Clarke of Zeehan, 10 June 1896. 5. Contract note for purchase of 100 shares in South Hercules, 7 April 1897. 6. Bills of Exchange, 29/9/1897 & 1/10/1897 to E.G.Clarke, Zeehan Hotel, each for scrip of 100 Curtin Davis shares. 7. Various correspondence in 1899 with The Tasmanian Tin Dredging Company Limited re Ringarooma River property. 8. Report on 18 mineral test bores put down on E.G.Clarke’s leases near Derby under option to The Curtin Davis Proprietory Company NL, 1900. 9. Papers and reports of the Ringarooma Valley and in particular Ringarooma Tin Dredging re E.G.Clarke, 1901-1906. 10. Bills of Exchange, nice examples to E.G.Clarke 22/7/1901 (3) all with coloured, impressed Tasmania duty stamps. 11. Guarantee papers by E.G.Clarke in respect of Queen River Dredging and Sluicing Coy, dated 26 August 1901, Strahan. 12. Documents relating to sale of dredge on Queen River for œ1,000 in 1903. 13. Lease agreement by E.G.Clarke to H.Harper for Ringarooma River Tribute, 1 September 1906. 14. Exemption to Mining Tenement nos. 303 & 304, 21 March 1907 in respect of lease to E.G.Clarke near Moorina and also Derby. 15. Correspondence re The Tullibardine and proposed sale of The Ringarooma for œ200,000, 19 July 1907. 16. Cheque book for National Australia Bank Tasmania Limited, Brother’s Home, Derby, 190-. 17. Large map of leaseholdings in Ringarooma River and surrounding area, 23 June 1902. 18. Various other documents relating to insurance equipment purchase and leasing. Other items some of which are share certificates (2) in The Farmers’ Co-operative Auctioneers Limited; Agreement with Municipality of Emu Bay for supply of charcoal; card and toast list for banquet to His Excellency Sir Robt. G.C.Hamilton KCB, Gov. of Tas, at Clarke’s Hotel, Zeehan, 25 April 1892.
