OLIVER CROMWELL, a bold, fine and clear ink signature on a paper piece removed from a letter, neatly and expertly fitted into a plush board and below a b&w image of Cromwell, board size (approx 35cm x 28cm) and perfect for framing. Extremely fine and rare.
Together with Guarantee of Authenticity from Exczecher Memorabilia, 28 May 2004. Oliver Cromwell (1599-1658), an English military and political leader who overthrew the English monarchy and declared England to be a republican Commonwealth. Cromwell dominated the short-lived Commonwealth of England, conquered Ireland and Scotland and ruled as Lord Protector from 1653 until his death in 1658. In Ireland and Scotland, the measures taken by him against Catholics is likened by historians as being near-genocidal. Cromwell was detested by the Royalists so much that when they returned to power they had his corpse dug up, hung in chains and beheaded.
