GEORGE III, commissioning document appointing Howard Elphinstone as Second Lieutenant in Corps of Royal Engineers, 16 October 1793, signed by Richmond (Duke of) Master General of His Majesty's Ordnance, and King George III, with small stamp seal. Two small holes at top, a few small stain marks, otherwise fine.

Major General Sir Howard Elphinstone (1773-1846) became the commanding Royal Engineer during the Peninsular War and attained the rank of Major General in 1837.
