DAVID LIVINGSTONE, signature on paper affixed to a heavy sheet, excised date '1857' from beginning of a letter is affixed above, with image of Livingstone below. Good very fine.

Together with Certificate of Authenticity from James Lowe Autographs Ltd. Recent sale of similar item, Bonhams sale 15230 (Mar 2007), lot 609 realised UKÅ“504 including buyer’s premium. David Livingstone (1813-1873) was a Scottish Congregationalist pioneer medical missionary with the London Missionary Society and an explorer. He was obsessed with discovering the scource of the River Nile in Africa. He explored far and wide on the African Continent and gave the name to Victoria Falls. When he lost contact with the outside world a newspaper man, Morton Stanley, was sent to find the reclusive Livingston and on locating him uttered the now famous words, ’Dr Livingstone I presume.’ He died in North West Rhodesia of malaria in 1873.
