BERNARDO O'HIGGINS, legal document from Republic of Chile, 22 February 1821, signed O'Higgins, a variety of other signatures and official stamps applied when processing document. Folds and creases resulting in paper separation, repaired with tape on back, staining, good and scarce.

Bernardo O’Higgins (1778-1842) of Irish and Basque descent was a Chilean independence leader who, together with Jose de San Martin, freed Chile from Spanish rule. He was the second Supreme Director of Chile (1817-1823). Chile’s highest award decoration at the time, the Order of the Legion of Merit of O’Higgins, was named in his honour.
