G.L. VON BLUCHER, Prussian Field Marshall, a key figure in the Battle of Waterloo, letter note in German, translation 'It is my pleasure to be of service to a German girl', dated, Hamburg, 21st September 1818, signed 'G Blucher'. Heavy folding, strengthened, and some discolouration but boldly signed and in overall good condition.

Ex Lion Heart Autographs Inc, 16 Nov 2005, US$350. Field Marshall Gebhard Leberecht Von Blucher (1742-1819) joined the Prussian Army in 1760. He had an illustrious military career before retiring in about 1811. In 1813, as a 71-year old he re-entered active service in the War of Liberation against France. His Army was routed by Napoleon at Ligny in 1815 and he was nearly killed. However, he was able to provide valuable assistance to Wellington at the Battle of Waterloo, thus ensuring Napoleon’s defeat. Four years later he died.
