GROUP OF SEVEN: The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (OBE civil 1st type); King's Police Medal (GVIR) for Distinguished Service; British War Medal 1914-18; Victory Medal 1914-19; General Service Medal 1937-49, - clasp - Palestine; Coronation Medal 1937; Volunteer Long Service and Good Conduct Medal (GVR). Maj W.F.Wainwright on first medal, Mjr William P.Wainwright OBE Dist Supt of Police Palestine on second medal, lieut W.Wainwright on third and fourth medals, Dist Supt W.F.Wainwright OBE Pal Police on fifth medal, Mr W.F.Wainwright on last medal. First medal and second medals engraved, third, fourth and fifth medals impressed, sixth medal unnamed, last medal renamed and engraved. Fine - extremely fine.
OBE: LG 03Jun1924 ’W.F.Wainwright District Commandant of Police Southern District, Palestine’. KPM: LG 02Jan1939 ’Major W.F.Wainwright OBE Dist Sup Pal Police, For prolonged Service extending over 39 years distinguished by exceptional ability and merit’. Born 1881 and served in Indian Police from 1899 to 1916 then commissioned 27 July 1916 as a 2/Lt Welsh Horse, later attached Pembroke Yeomanry and Lieut 27 Jan 1918 serving in EEF and Palestine Nov 1916 to 31 Oct 1918.Listed as Major TA Res in 1924 list. Joined Palestine Police Force 1st Sept 1920 as one of the four senior aides to the Commandant of Police, Percy B.Bramley OBE KPM. He was therefore one of the first British Officers in the Force and with the rank of District Commandant was placed in charge of the Southern District with his headquarters located at Jaffa. On the 1st April 1926 he was promoted to District Superintendent of Police and on the 7th May 1926 transferred to the Jerusalem District where he remained until he retired in 1939.
