L. MUSSIDIUS LONGUS, (42 B.C.), silver denarius, Rome mint, (3.84 grams), obv. veiled bust of Concord to right, CONCORDIA behind, rev. L. MVSSIDIVS LONGVS above platform inscribed CLOACIN with two statues of Venus Cloacina, (S.494, Cr.494/42b, Syd.1093, B. Mussidia 6b). Attractive gold toning, slightly off centre on obverse, otherwise extremely fine and very scarce.

Ex Charles E. Weber collection and Triton VII auction, lot 1357 (part). With detailed collector’s tickets. The shrine of Venus Cloacina (Venus of the Sewer) stood in the forum and was worshipped as both the goddess of purity and of filth.
