PEEK & CAMPBELL - SYDNEY TEA STORES, Sydney penny, 1852 (A.427, H.247/1) the 'four lines' pattern by J.C. Thornthwaite struck on a medal press rather than his regular 'drop hammer' press. Chocolate brown patina, very well struck, tiny metal flaw in field beside chimney on obverse, extremely fine or better and extremely rare, the second finest of six known and one of the classics of the series.

Ex Spink Australia Sale 19 (lot 1588) and private purchase from Monetarium, Sydney in 2001.
