71ST REGIMENT OF FOOT, medal for courage, loyalty and good conduct, in bronze, impressed number 5, other details worn. Holed at top off centre, details extremely worn, poor but scarce.

In Reports from Commissioners 1836 to the House of Commons it states a Medal Society - Seventy-first Regiment of Foot was formed in the 71st Light Infantry for the reward of merit, courage, loyalty and general good conduct. The recipient must have served ten years in the 71st and the number of medal-men (NCOs and others included) could not exceed 50.
