PHRYGIA, Laodikeia, (c.100-90 B.C.), silver cistophoric tetradrachm, (12.252 grams), obv. cista mystica containing serpent, all within ivy wreath, rev. bow in case between two coiled serpents, to left **LAO*, to right a caduceus with fillet, **EUHNOS/HRWDOU* above, (cf.S.5147, SNG von Aulock -, SNG Cop. 491, BMC -). Good very fine and rare.

Ex Classical Numismatic Group Auction Sale XXVII, September 29, 1993 (lot 643 illustrated). A rare group of magistrates from a scarce mint for cistophori.
