CHARLES I, (1625-1649), Scarborough besieged, 1644-5, silver shilling (8.3gm) type 2, uniface, almost circular with legend 'CAROLI FORTVNA RESURGAM', eighteenth century striking by Dr.Gifford (S.3165; cf Murdoch 342; Brooker 1270). Toned, extremely fine and very rare.

Possibly ex Bergne Sale 1873 (lot 784) and Murdoch Collection (lot 342), with three Spink tickets of the 1980's and a Digby Firth (?) ticket.
