AGRIPPINA, mother of Gaius (Caligula), (d. A.D. 33), AE sestertius, Rome mint, issued A.D. 37-41, (24.13 grams), obv. draped bust Agrippina Senior to right, around AGRIPPINA M F MAT C CAES[ARIS AVGVSTI], dotted border, rev. capentum drawn to left by two mules, above [S] P Q R, and MEMORIAE AGRIPPINAE, (S.1827 [£450 F], RIC 55, BMC 81, CBN 128). Dark tone, porous field and weak in places, otherwise nearly fine and rare.
Her coinage as with that of her husband Germanicus was all issued posthumously initially under her son Caligula and later under her brother-in-law Claudius.
