CN. NERIUS, (49 B.C.), silver denarius, Rome mint, (4.03 grams), obv. bearded head of Saturn to right, harpa over shoulder, NERI. Q. VRB before, rev. legionary eagle between two standards, L. LENT to left, C. MARC to right, H and P on standards, COS below, (S.411, RRC 441/1, CRR 937, RSC Neria 1). Deeply toned with golden highlights, slightly off centre with some hoard patination on reverse, otherwise nearly extremely fine and scarce.

This moneyer Nerius held his post of quaestor urbanus under the auspices of the Pompeian party, on the approach of Julius Caesar to Rome he fled with the consuls to Sicily.
