JULIUS CAESAR, (assassinated 44 B.C.), denarius, Rome mint, struck Feb. - March 44 B.C., (4.11 grams), obv. CAESAR [DICT] PERPETVO around Caesar's veiled head to right, rev. P. SEPVLLI[VS] MACER off flan around, Venus standing left, holding Victory and sceptre resting on shield, (S.1414, Cr.480/13, RSC Julius Caesar 39, BMC 4173). Deeply toned, slight scratches on reverse and mild double striking, otherwise good very fine and scarce in this condition.
Ex Spink & Son with ticket. This coin states that Caesar had been named dictator in perpetuity. He was assassinated within two months of its mintage.
