VESPASIAN, (A.D. 69-79), denarius, Ephesus mint, issued 71, obv. laureate head of Vespasian to right, around IMP CAESAR VESPAS AVG COS III TR P PP, rev. Victory advancing to right, holding wreath and palm, around [PACI] AVGVSTAE, to lower right EPHE (S.2270, RIC 333, RSC 276, BMC 457). Bright, slightly off centre on reverse, otherwise very fine - good very fine and rare.

This issue commemorates the peace following the Jewish War of A.D.66-70. The issue struck at Ephesus is unusual in that it carries a mint signature, a practice revived only two centuries later.
