SCOTLAND, University of Aberdeen, Shepherd Memorial Medal for Surgery, 1917, in gold (22ct; 31g; 38mm), reverse inscribed, 'Frederick W.Carter/1917'. In original case by A.& J.Smith, Jewellers, Aberdeen, hairlines, otherwise uncirculated.
See following lots 2078 and 2079 to same person. Also lots 893 and 4668 for correspondence with Winston Churchill. The Shepherd Gold Medal was founded in 1879 in memory of Peter Shepherd (1841-1879), a Surgeon Major with the British Army. He was killed while attempting to move a wagon load of troops injured at the Battle of Isandhlwana back to Rorke's Drift. With research.
