ITALY, Lucania, Metapontum, (c.300 B.C.), silver stater or nomos, (7.78 grams), obv. left facing bust of Demeter wearing necklace, triple pendant, barley leaves etc, rev. ear of corn, META upwards to right **AQA to left below leaf, with tongs above, (cf.S.416, cf.SNG Ash 753, cf.SNG Manchester 214, Johnston [NN&M 164] Class C, 4.). Good very fine and scarce.
