WILLIAM I, the Conqueror (1066-1087), silver penny, Bonnet type, BMC 2, Br.II type, issued 1068-1070, (1.35g), obv. facing crowned bust around + PILLEMV REX, rev. cross voided between crescents, centre an annulet, in each angle pile surmounted by pellet, around D-ORR ON EOFERP (Thorr of York mint), (S.1251, N.842, BMC 178). Dark tone, nearly extremely fine and rare.

Ex Henry E.Parkes (bought in London) and Dr John Marden Collection in 1915.
