Victory walking to left, holding laurel branch in right hand and palm branch in left hand, around SPQR OPTIMO PRINCIPI, SC across field, (cf.S.3233, RIC 521, C.436); Commodus, (A.D. 177-192), AE dupondius, Rome mint, issued A.D. 183, (13.28 g), obv. radiate head of Commodus to right, around M COMMODVS ANTONINVS AVG, rev. around PROV DEOR TR P VI IMP IIII COS III P P, S C across field, Providentia standing to left, holding long sceptre and baton pointing to globe at her feet, (S.5845, RIC 317, cf.C.628, BMC 465). Light brown patinas, nearly very fine/fine and scarce, first an unlisted variety in Sear. (2)
