PAIR: Queen's South Africa Medal 1899 (type 2 with ghost dates), - four clasps - Defence of Ladysmith, Orange Free State, Transvaal, Laing's Nek; King's South Africa Medal 1902, - two clasps - South Africa 1901, South Africa 1902. 1681. Sapr. G.Hill. R.E. on both medals. First medal engraved, second medal impressed. Swing mounted, nicely toned, extremely fine.

George Hill, bricklayer, age 19, born at Glasgow, Scotland; joined Royal Engineers 10Mar1898 as a sapper; passed Telegraphy (Line) Skilled class 04Jan1899; medal entitlement confirmed; Disch.09Mar1910.
