VAN DIEMEN'S LAND, printed cheque form Derwent Bank, Hobart Town, July 4th, 1835, No.-, for £480 to S. Neil Talbot Esq, signed by Jms. Thos. Leahy, D.Cl 21st Fusiliers. Two spike holes and 5mm tear in top margin, otherwise very fine.

Ex W.J.D.Mira Collection, Noble Numismatics Sale 89 (lot 3124). Together with three pages of research chronicling Leahy's military record in the 21st Fusiliers. He arrived in Van Diemen's Land in 1833. The cheque was made out to Talbot, a Hobart land agent and was almost certainly related to Leahy's purchase of part of the 'Paulsgrove' estate in the Illawarra in 1835.
