MACEDON, Kingdom of, Alexander III, (336-323 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, (17.07 g), 'Uranopolis' mint, issued under Kassander, Philip IV, Antipater or Demetrios I Poliorketes about 300-290 B.C., obv. head of Herakles to right wearing lion skin, with a dotted border, rev. Zeus Aetophoros seated on throne to left, eagle in outstretched hand, X below star on cone to left, wreath under throne, to right **ALEXANDROU*, (cf.S.6713, Price 509, BMC -, SNG Cop. 706, M.642, Ehrhardt "Amphipolis" 61). Traces of a golden patina, well centred, extremely fine and rare.
