EUBOIA, Chalcis, (338-303 B.C.), silver drachm, (3.41 g), obv. head of Hera to right, with hair rolled, rev. eagle flying to right carrying snake in talons and beak, symbol of lyre over monogram of AN below, (cf.S.2482, Picard Emission 9 [p.41, Pl.IX, 1b same dies], Lanz BCD Sale Catalogue 111, [lot 140]). Very fine/fine and a very rare variant.
Ex BCD Collection (with his ticket and photos) and previously from the Kunker Auction Sale 19, March 11, 1991 (lot 5584) (cost 201 DM). This variety from five obverse dies with only 17 reported examples by Picard for this lyre symbol with most in public collections.
