HADRIAN, (A.D. 117-138), silver denarius, issued 137, Rome mint, (3.08 g), obv. bare head of Hadrian right, around HADRIANVS AVG COS III P P, rev. MONETA AVG around, Moneta standing left holding scales and cornucopiae, (S.3507, RIC 256, RSC 963). Lightly toned, slightly uneven flan, otherwise nearly extremely fine and an interesting type.
The temple of the goddess Juno Moneta was located on the Capitol and was the site of the imperial mint where this coin was produced. The modern word 'money' is derived from Moneta.
