ROYAL SHIPWRECK RELIEF & HUMANE SOCIETY OF N.S.W., silver medal, reverse inscribed, 'Augustus M.Tartakover/For Saving Life/Tuggerah Lakes/Entrance/N.S.W./26th Dec.1909'. In Hardy Bros official case, extremely fine.

In The Sydney Morning Herald, 6 April 1910, it was reported that Mr Gus Tartakover, a prominent member of the Manly Surf Club was presented with the silver medal of the Royal Humane Society and the special certificate of the Royal LIfesaving Society for saving life in the surf at Tuggerah during the last Christmas holidays. Many of Mr Tartakover's club mates attended and gave him a hearty reception.

Agustus 'Gus' Mitchell Tartakover was Vice Captain of Manly Surf Club in 1910. At the close of the 1910-11 season a concert and distribution of prizes was held by the club at Eden Summer Gardens (South Steyne), Manly on 6 May 1911. Gus Tartakover received a gold medal for a rescue he made at Tuggerah Lakes during the 1909-10 season.
