M. LUCILIUS RUFUS, (c.101 B.C.), silver denarius, Rome mint, (3.86 g), obv. Roma helmeted head right, PV behind, all within laurel wreath, rev. Victory in biga to right, RVF above, M.LVCILI in exergue, (S.202, Cr.324/1, Syd.599, RSC Lucilia 1). Hairline scratches on obverse, otherwise bright, good very fine and scarce.

The large number of Victory issues at this time are linked to the military activities of C. Marius who defeated the Teutones and Ambrones at Aquae Sextiae in 102 and the Cimbri at Vercellae in 101.
