EARL OF ROTHES DOCUMENTS, 1440-1609, a collection of Scottish documents mostly on vellum and spanning two centuries, mostly written in Latin and with some details written on the back in Scottish Gaelic, includes; 1) Dated, Last March 1440, with drawn Notary Mark, details unknown. 2) 11 May 1461 relating to the lands of Fetterairn or Balmain previously charted to Sir George Leslie of Rothes by the Earl of Ross; with drawn Notary Mark. 3) 8 April 1479 with drawn Notary Mark, details unknown. 4) 12 February 1487 with drawn Notary Mark, details unknown. 5) 2 March 1506 Warrant by King James the 4th to William Leslie, brother germane to George Early of Rothes and others within named to take care of the said Earle and prevent his squandering the Estate of Rothes. 6) 19 April 1575 resignation of claim as Sherriff of Fife by Lord Lindsay of the Byres in favour of Earl of Rothes, with two drawn Notary Marks. 7) 20 November 1609 grant of Andrew Earl of Rothes to John Leslie of Kinninowy of the lands of Conraick, Clay Pots, Fishertown. 8) 11 November 1623 being an act in a reduction at the Earl of Rothes instance and Ramsay of Balmain and others for production of all writs relating to the lands of Fethus and Balmain. 9) December 1692-March 17 1693 statement of account for listed purchases bought for the use of the young Lords. 10) 7 June 1702 Burgos Bill of the Burgh of Burntisland for the Earl of Rothes (Burntisland was a former royal burgh in Fife). 11) 21 January 1829 gift of the Sherriffship of Fife to George Earle of Rothes. 12) Undated, unidentified partial document in Latin. 13) Leather document holder with crowned R in left front corner (Rothes??). A rare collection of documents for nobility, the document holder loose around edges in places otherwise fine, the documents mostly very fine. (14)
