SOUTH AFRICA, Heroes of the Birkenhead, in gold (18ct, 39.8g) by the South African Historical Mint, hallmarked on the edge, numbered 2083. Proof-like uncirculated, in plush case of issue.

Issued in 1977 to mark the 125th anniversary of the sinking of the HMS Birkenhead on 26th February 1852 near Western Cape, South Africa.
