TULUNIDS, Khumarawayh ibn Tulun, (A.H. 270-282) (A.D. 883-895), gold dinar, Misr mint (Cairo, Egypt), (4.18 g), A.H. 271, = A.D. 884-885, with additional field inscriptions including ruler's name, (A.667, Grabar 20, M.-). Extremely fine and scarce.

Ex Baldwin's Islamic Auction 21, (lot 358). The Tulunids were the first Egyptian dynasty to seek independence from the Abbasid caliph. They ruled Egypt and Syria from A.D. 868-905 with the gold being the predominant coinage and only rarely was silver and copper struck, consequently it is rarely seen.
