SYRIA, Kingdom of, Seleucus I, in the name of Antiochos I Soter, (281-261 B.C.), silver tetradrachm (16.79 g), Seleucia on Tigris mint, Struck under Seleukos I, circa 294 onwards B.C., obv. head of Herakles to right, wearing lion skin headdress, rev. Zeus A‰tophoros seated left, in left field, **PA* monogram, another **PA* monogram within oval below throne, to right ANTIOXOY, below in exergue traces of **BASILEWS*, (cf.S.6864. SC 120.6c, Newell ESM 136). Nearly very fine, scarce.

Crown prince Antiochus was elevated in 295/4 B.C., to the co-regency of the kingdom, a position he held until 281 B.C.
