DECIMIUS FLAVUS, silver denarius, c.150 B.C. 4.11 grams, Rome Mint, Crawford 207/1, Sydenham 391, BMC 848, B. Decimia 1 Sear 189, Obv. Head of Roma r. helmeted X behind, Rev. Diana in biga r. FLAVS below horses, ROMA in exerque. Very fine and rare, (1513).

Ex C.Pitchfork Collection and previously from the Duke of Northumberland Collection, sold at Sothebys, London, November 4, 1982 (lot 232 part). This is the Specimen described on p.78-9 as number 17 by Rear Admiral Henry Smyth 'Descriptive Catalogue, A Cabinet of Roman Family Coins belonging to His Grace the Duke of Northumberland K.G.', published 1856.

The moneyer is perhaps a Decimus Flavus, not otherwise known, he is perhaps a grandson of C. Decimius Flavus Praetor 184 B.C.
