M. OPIMIUS, silver denarius, issued 131 B.C., 3.67 grams, Rome Mint, Crawford 254/1, Sydenham 475, B. Opimia 16, BMC 1137, Obv. Helmeted head of Roma to r., below chin *, behind a Tripod, border of dots, Rev. Apollo in biga to r., holding bow and arrow in l. hand and reins in r. hand, below M.OPEIMI, in exergue ROMA. Toned, good very fine, scarce, (1429).

Ex C.Pitchfork Collection and previously from the Duke of Northumberland Collection, sold at Sothebys, London, November 4, 1982 (lot 249 part). This is the Specimen described on p.157 by Rear Admiral Henry Smyth 'Descriptive Catalogue, A Cabinet of Roman Family Coins belonging to His Grace the Duke of Northumberland K.G.', published 1856.
