C. CAECILIUS METELLUS CAPRARIUS, silver denarius, issued 125 B.C., Rome Mint, 3.81 grams, C.269/1, S.485, BMC 1180, Sear Caecilia 14 (p.20), Obv. Head of Roma to r., ROMA behind, * below chin, Rev. Jupiter in biga of elephants to l., Victory flies above, C. ME(ligated) TELLV [S]. Toned, very fine and rare (14).

The issue refers to the famous victory of L. Caecilius Metellus over the Carthaginians at Panormus in 251 B.C., when he captured all the enemy's elephants and later exhibited them in his triumph at Rome.
