C. CLODIUS C.F Vestalis, silver denarius, Issued 41 B.C., 3.80 grams, Rome Mint, Crawford 512/2, Sydenham 1135, B. Claudia 13, BMC 4196, Obv. Bust of Flora to r., flower behind, before downwards C CLODIVS, behind C.F. upwards, dotted border, Rev. Vestal Virgin, Claudia Quinta, seated to l., holding bowl with two handles (cymbium) VESTALIS behind, dotted border. Broad flan, toned very fine/nearly extremely fine and very scarce, (1458).

The moneyer was later Pro Consul of Crete & Cyrene. The obverse refers to the Ludi Florales organised by an ancestor in 240 B.C. The reverse to the Vestal Claudia Quinta who transported the image of Cybele from Pessinus to Rome in 204 B.C. The figure represents the a statue erected by the Senate in her honour. One of the last issues by the Republic of Rome.
