ANNIUS VERUS, (Son of Marcus Aurelius & Faustina Junior), 166-9 A.D., bronze quadrans or tessera, c.169 A.D., 2.66 grams, C.31, RIC (Anon) 34, obv. Bust of Annius Verus right crowned with vine leaves, grape clusters over neck. rev. SC in wreath of vine leaves and grape clusters. Very fine and very rare, (926).

Commonly identified as Annius Verus, the portrait of this piece has also been taken as Bacchus. It could have been used for admission to baths and games as a quadrans. SC suggests an official strike. See King 'Quadranates from the Tiber River' Num. Chron. 1975 p.56.
