PAIR: The Most Distinguished Order of St Michael and St George, Companion (CMG) neck badge; Imperial Service Order (EVIIR). First medal unnamed, George Browne Esq. Companion of Imperial Service Order 1903 on second medal. Named medal engraved. Uneven toning on reverse of second medal due to removal of double sided tape and some tape residue on ribbon of first, otherwise extremely fine.
George Browne CMG, ISO died on 15 December 1919 at Hobart, Tasmania at age 85, one of the city's most respected citizens. For many years he acted as private secretary or honorary secretary to a long line of State Governors, also with the Governor in the Straits Settlements at Singapore from 1881-1884. He entered Tasmanian Civil Service in 1862 and held numerous senior positions. He was awarded an ISO in 1903 and a CMG in 1917.
