PAIR: Crimea Medal 1854, - clasp - Sebastopol; Turkish Crimea Medal (British issue). Commander B,P,Priest, on first medal, second medal unnamed as issued. The named medal engraved. The first ribbon damaged, both medals nicely toned but with uneven toning on one side after removal of double sided tape, otherwise very fine - good very fine.
Benjamin Pentland Priest served as Lieutenant on HMS Leonard and as the senior Lieutenant was second in command. He was mentioned several times in despatches to the Admiralty by Vice Admiral and Commander-in-Chief Chas. Napier. In one such despatch, advice was given that he was a steady and deserving officer who held command of HMS Leopold from Brahestad to Uleaborg and Tornea. A despatch dated 29 June 1854 advised that Priest had been promoted to Commander.
