THESSALY, Thessalian League, (c.mid - late 1st century B.C.), silver stater or double victoriatus, (22mm, 6.10 g). Italos and Diokles, magistrates, obv. head of Zeus right, wearing laurel wreath, **ITALOU* to left, rev. **QESSA LWN** to left and right, Athena Itonia striding right, hurling spear held in her right hand, shield on her left arm, **ITA-LOS* above spear, NI in inner right field, **DIOKLHS* in exergue, (cf.S.2233. McClean 4802-4 var. [these magistrates, names engraved differently], BCD 876.1 [Triton XV]). Bright, nearly extremely fine and rare.
