Bt. Comm. Assam Mil.Pol. on first medal, Captain Sir G.D.S.Dunbar Bart. 31st Punjabis Comdg Lakhimpur Bn A.M.P. on second medal, Maj. G.D.S.Dunbar Bart. on third medal, Commdt Lakhimpur. Bn. Military Police Capt Sir George Duff Sutherland Dunbar Bart I.A. on last medal. First, second and last medals name erased, renamed and engraved, third medal impressed. Good very fine.

MID: LG, 16/7/1912, p5178, from Major-General H.Bower, CB, regarding recent operations against the Abors on the North-Eastern Frontier of India, 'Captain Sir George Duff-Sutherland-Dunbar, 31st Punjabis, has commanded to my satisfaction, and his services have also been brought to notice by Colonel Fisher, Commanding the Ledum Column.'

Sir George Duff Sutherland Dunbar of Hempriggs, 6th Bt. was born on 29May1878; educated at Harrow School, Harrow on the Hill, London; succeeded to title of 6th Baronet Dunbar of Hempriggs, county Caithness on 07Dec1897; attended Royal Military College, Sandhurst; appointed an officer in The Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders in 1898; in 1902 appointed an officer in Indian Army; Commander of the Military Police, Assam; fought in the Arbor Expedition and mentioned in dispatches; awarded King's Police Medal in 1912; in World War I with the War Office in France and the Indian Frontier; he was attached to the Indian States delegation at the Round Table Conference of 1930; authored several books on India such as Paladins of India (1932) and History of India (1936, republished several times); died 08Apr1962.
