RAF, GROUP CAPTAIN'S NO.1 Dress cap (KC), by Bates, Hatter, St James, London, inside marked R Morant; also Plumpton School Rugby Football Club 1st XV cap in black felt and decorated with silver braid and tassel, inside with the name, 'R.A.L.Morant 1937'; embroidered blazer patch Australia under coat-of-arms and below, 'Athletics 1935/Rugby Union 1937-38'. The last with one moth hole, otherwise very fine. (3)

Group Captain R.A.L.Morant OBE, RAF. Roy Arthur Lushington Morant gained a cadetship from Plumpton to RAF Cranwell in 1938. On 01Jun1940 as a Pilot Officer he was reported missing in Spitfire P9377 over Dunkirk but later reported downed after an attack by an Me109, crash landing on the beach at Bray-Dunes. He was also injured when his Spitfire P9420 crashed on forced landing at Hemswell near Normanton, Lincolnshire 26Jun1940. In Oct1950 Sqn Ldr Morant led a team of four Meteors of 63 Sqn in an exhibition of formation drill at an air display show. In Aug1976 Morant joined the Churchill Trust of Australia as Chief Executive Officer and served until his retirement in Jul1988. He died at Nambucca Heads, NSW on 05Aug1988.
