CRUSADERS, Genovese in the North Aegean, (c1382-1450), gold ducat, imitating Antonio Venier, 1382-1400, Samos or Chios (?) mint, obv. ANIO VENER D/ V/ X, S/ N/ V/E/N/E/T, N's are reversed, St. Mark standing right, lowering head to and receiving banner from Doge kneeling left, rev. SIT TXP EDADET STVESx ISIST? DVC..(or similar), Christ standing facing, raising hand in benediction and holding Gospels, surrounded by mandorla containing nine stars, (Ives NN&M 128 describes various types). Extremely fine and rare.
