MACEDON, Kingdom of, Alexander III, (336-323 B.C.), gold stater, (8.57 g), Babylon mint, issued 311-305 B.C. during second satrapy of Seleucus, obv. head of Athena to right in crested Corinthian helmet, ornamented with serpent, M to left, rev. Nike standing to left, holding wreath in outstretched hand, **BA SILEWS* and **LU* monogram in lower left field, to right **ALEXANDPO[U]*, (cf.S.6702; Price 3691, M.1271, BMC 3691). Some mint bloom, otherwise nearly extremely fine and rare.
