ANNUITIES RECEIPT 1789, a receipt on printed form (approx 20.5x26.5cm) headed 'Annuities 3700L. per Week', Record (written) 7 April 1789, Numb. (written) 569 - Littleton, being a recipt signed by Thomas Coutts as attorney for George Gefferina for Fifty pounds in recognition of granting aid for carrying on war or other occasions to the King and paid from the fund created from rates and duties on alcohol. Some foxing, loss of paper on one fold and a few other small areas and along bottom edge, otherwise very good and scarce.

Thomas Coutts (1735-1822) of the British banking house of Thomas Coutts & Co, later Coutts & Co which is now a private bank and wealth manager and one of the oldest banks. It is wholly owned by the Royal Bank of Scotland Group.
