FAMILY GROUP TO BROTHERS (BOTH KIA): Pair: 1914-15 Star; British War Medal 1914-19. 2822 Pte C.N.Gulley. 9/Bn. A.I.F.; Single: Victory Medal 1914-19. 6789 Pte C.H.Gulley. 9 Bn. A.I.F. All medals impressed. Very fine.

Charles Norman Gulley, labourer, age 20, born at Townsville, Qld; Enl.29Jun1915 at Brisbane, Qld; Emb.01Sep1915 with 9 Bn, 9 Reinforcements; KIA 21Aug1916 in Battle of Pozieres - initially reported missing but following an enquiry was declared killed in action. One witness stated that he disappeared in front of Thiepval near Mouquet Farm where the unit was holding the front line and the shelling was very heavy, blowing the trench and the shells were coming in thick; Pte Gulley has no known grave but is commemorated at the Australian National Memorial, Villers Bretonneux.

Cecil Henry Gulley, storeman, age 18, born at Townsville, Qld; Enl.27Sep1916 at Townsville, Qld; previous service of one year in Senior Cadets; Emb.27Oct1916 with 9 Bn 22 Reinforcements; KIA 20Sep1917 in Belgium- initially reported WIA then MIA and then killed in action; Pte Gulley was buried at Chateau Wood and is commemorated at The Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial.
