DERWENT BANK, Hobart Town, two cheques drawn by James Grant, one dated 2 Sep 1839 and the other dated 2 October 1839, both for five pounds and both with various endorsements on back. Pin holes, toning, otherwise fine. (2)

The James Grant above is possibly Dr James Grant who conducted the post mortem examination and testified in the case of manslaughter of James Lovett brought against Dr Durie, Assistant Colonial Surgeon, in a trial at the Supreme Court of Van Diemen's Land on 12 October 1839.
